Anxious About the Election? - Relax, God Is In Control
This post is for those claiming to be religious but somehow find themselves scared and frustrated ahead of the elections, and for those who realize they don't have faith after all.
If you feel fear and anxiety about earthly affairs, you do not have faith!
If you've read my work, you probably know that I'm no fan of religion—any religion. I do, however, admit that being religious and believing in a force far greater than yourself can be beneficial for achieving inner peace.
Oddly enough, I see millions of religious people utterly terrified of the coming elections. Where’s your faith in their God? The unshakable trust that God is in control, and he knows what he's doing and doesn't need any help from you, mere mortals.
Let's talk about trusting your God
Relax—God is in control
He who created everything and governs everything, in this realm and the next, should have no problem choosing his champion on the political stage. Nothing can happen without God choosing or allowing it to happen. And should he allow "bad or evil" things to happen, it is his will, so who are you to question it? (everything happens for a reason, sort of idea)
For any believer, the above should be their core belief and the rock on which they base their faith. God is perfect, and God is all; therefore, everything and everyone is perfect, and it cannot be any other way.
My honest opinion, and you can hate me for it all you want, is that if you feel fear and anxiety about earthly affairs, you are not a true believer. You do not have faith in God’s power, perhaps even his existence.
Matthew 17:20 - "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
Find strength in your beliefs
Only one truly good thing comes from blind faith - the inner peace and unmovable strength it provides for the believer. "I don't have to worry about anything and anyone because God is on my side, and God is in control."
What's the point of calling yourself religious if you don't have that?
Renew your faith and refocus on what is important
Faith, blind though it may be, is the most powerful tool for achieving inner peace that humanity has ever known. If you are truly religious, then this would be the time to work on your faith and give yourself to your God, whichever one you happen to believe in. He will lighten your burdens (or rather, your faith will).
Faith and fear can't exist together. They cancel each other.
I want you to be at peace with whatever happens
If this is the shortest path to inner peace and relaxation regarding the future, give yourself to it completely!
Refrain from judging anything, as your God knows best and is always in control.
Trust that God knows what he’s doing and that he will take care of you.
If Jesus is king, or Allah is the supreme leader (or whatever), then no elected leader is greater than them, and they are still the ones running the show.
Do you not believe that God is in control? Is God not all there is?
Do you not believe that God is capable of enacting his will over humanity? Is God not all-powerful?
Do you not trust his plans, even when you don't understand them? Is God not all-knowing?
Make the choice to believe in God and know that he's in control. This means you can relax, and if there is something for you to do, he will let you know. Faith provides great comfort regardless of the validity of the belief.
Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Examine your beliefs and your faith in God
If you find yourself afraid and anxious about such trivial things as the general election, of which you've survived all and hardly anything has ever changed, you might want to reassess your beliefs.
Do you even believe in God?
Are you factually religious, or just on paper?
What does this fear tell you about your beliefs?
You need to know who you are and what you believe
I don't care what your conclusions are; just don't sit on two chairs, as that is the worst possible outcome.
If you claim to believe in God but realize that you don't, not really, then you will have to find some other foundation for your reasoning. The religious one was provided for you. Flawed though it may be (and it is horribly flawed), it is the quickest and easiest way to attain inner peace. Trust in God, and you're done.
The alternative gives the power over to you, and that is a different path than that of blind faith. You have to make the call on what is good and evil. You have to define what is and what is not in your control. Then you do the best you can, and let go of the rest. The alternative is madness, helplessness, and eternal anxiety.
Two possible outcomes
As you face your faith and examine it, you will come to one of two conclusions:
You have faith in your God, and by working on strengthening your faith, you will attain inner peace, regardless of what is happening in the world. - The path of a believer.
You will notice that you don't honestly believe in God, at least not in the classical sense. Then, you will have to do some soul-searching and critical thinking. - The path of a skeptic.
A small comfort for the second group
Generally speaking, elections don't matter all that much, which can be concerning, but this fact can also offer a sense of relief. Go out and cast your vote if that is what you want to do, but beyond that, let it go.
Whatever comes will come anyway. Focus on what you control and trust that you will adapt to new circumstances. Ground your faith in your own ability to adapt and survive, not in controlling the future, which is impossible.
A bird sits comfortably atop a tree, not because of its faith in the sturdiness of the branch but because it has faith in its wings.
Don't fight change. Adapt and learn to swim with the flow of life. There's no point in fighting change. You can go along willingly, or you can be dragged away screaming.
Clearly discern what you control and what is beyond your control. Inner peace can be found in releasing things beyond our reach. Peace can be found amid the chaos by controlling your mind and focusing on the moment, one step at a time.
Those who found alternative views on reality and their role in it, such as conscious creators, simulation hackers, and awoken or enlightened ones, might find their foundations in accepting the oneness of everything and everyone or their role as living Gods operating their versions of reality or simulation.
Inner peace can come from acknowledging that there is no reality, only a mind-made illusion, and since the mind is all, there is nothing to fear (like in a dream - you’re the only power there is).
Whichever path you choose - go all in
Leave doubt outside your door and master your mind in a way that will leave no room for fear and anxiety. After all, they serve no practical purpose, God or no God.
Faith, reason, and philosophy all serve the same purpose. Use them!
May your candidate win and be the best of two flawed choices ahead
Either way - you’ll be just fine. Have faith in yourself, and you won’t need to believe in your candidate, a political party, or some deity in the sky. If you choose to delegate this responsibility to God, make sure to “cast your burden” completely and enjoy the relief as the weight is lifted from your shoulders.
